I have been interested in nutrition and how to live well and as healthy as I can for most of my life. My mother taught me that the key to good health is to eat a healthy diet, get plenty of sleep and get plenty of sunshine!. When I was diagnosed with COPD, I realized that what and how I eat is even more important than I thought. A simple cold could be the cause of death with severe COPD, so the goal is to not get one! A healthy immune system is critical in managing this disease.
I became certified in nutrition. Then my doctor handed me a book called Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. This was a “game changer” and I have made very effort to be an intuitive or mindful eater.
The principles with Intuitive Eating are:
• Principle 1: Reject The Diets
• Principle 2: Honor Your Hunger
• Principle 3: Making Peace With Food
• Principle 4: Challenge Your Beliefs About Food
• Principle 5: Honor Your Fullness
• Principle 6: Pleasure Of Eating
• Principle 7: Coping With Emotions Without Food
• Principle 8: Respect Your Body
• Principle 9: Exercise As A Celebration
• Principle 10: Self-Love Meets Nutrition
